Sister Writes 3.1 – Stories About Motherhood – Launches!

By Sister Writes

Come listen to Sister Writes participants from Jessie’s, The June Callwood Centre for Young Mothers, read stories about motherhood, love, life, and growing up.

Our magazine launch for Sister Writes 3.1 is coming up on Monday January 21 from 5-7 pm at the We Global Learning Centre at 339 Queen Street East.

This is the culminating event of our 12 week program at Jessie’s. Acclaimed authors and poets  — including Kate Cayley, Lauren Kirshner, Hoa Nguyen, Aisha Sasha John, Souvankham Thammavongsa, and Andrea Thompson — ran workshops on fiction writing, poetry, and spoken word, and guided the participants through exercises to jump start their creative processes. Then, the participants worked one-on-one with their writer mentors to polish their stories for publication.

The stories are superb. It’s going to be a special evening.

The event will include live readings by the authors, the launch of issue 3.1 (illustrated beautifully by Toronto artist Meredith Sadler) and mingling with the authors. Readings will begin at 5:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome!

We would like to thank the Ontario Arts Council, Sistering, Jessie’s, The June Callwood Centre, and our volunteers, for their incredible support with this project.
